Passeggiata erboristica con Sonia!

Herbal walk with Sonia!

Yesterday we spent a wonderful day with Sonia, an expert on herbs, which captivated us with hers endless knowledge on the subject! The weather seemed first to be rainy and cloudy .. but changed quickly in a warmy day...temperature unusually mild... and sunshine heating us during the walk. Finally ... we had lunch under the porch ... in front of the wood-fired oven switched on, where we enjoyed all of the herbs that we collected!! Really unthinkable for a ending of January day ...

Here is the list of what we found during the morning moving just a few metres from home:
grugni (Cichorium intybus), piantaggine (Plantago maior), crespigne (Sonchus oleraceus), strigoli (Silene vulgaris), pratoline (Bellis perennis), speragne (Crepis sancta), galium (Galium aparine), melissa (Melissa officinalis), ortica (Urtica dioica), veronica (Veronica officinalis), alliaria (Alliaria petiolata), calendula (Calendula officinalis) borsa del pastore (Capsella bursa-pastoris), senape (Brassica arvensis), carota (Daucus carota), cinquefoglie (Potentilla), malva (Malva sylvestris), pimpinella (Sanguisorba minor), menta (Mentha viridis)
Lucky showed us calming and sedative properties of lavender!
For lunch we prepared "bruschetta" with wild mustard leaves collected by Sonia. Simple boil in salted water and then cooked in a pan with garlic and olive oil. Then a soft "polenta" (with a very fine corn flour) served with mixed herbs (all those listed above except pimpinella and int ...) cooked in the same way.
